MORE CONDOS FOR BRICKELL: Twin residential towers are planned for Coral Way and South Miami Avenue — adjacent to the Southside Elementary School — by BAP Development, developers of the Summit Brickell Grand residential and retail project two blocks away at South Miami Avenue between 10th and 11th streets. The 2.07-acre site, which was listed for $10 million, was most recently under contract by LaSalle Partners, which had planned a resort and spa. BEACH CITIZEN: The Miami Beach Chamber of Commerce named Carlos E. Cisneros citizen of the year. Mr. Cisneros is founding chairman and CEO of Miami Beach-based Cisneros Television Group and serves on the boards of Univision Communications Inc., El Sitio Inc., Univoz Inc. and OneSoft Corp. Mr. Cisneros is also president of the Miami Art Museum board of trustees. He will receive the award Jan. 13 at the chamber's annual gala being held in the Fontainebleau Hilton Resort & Towers. LATIN LINKS: The law firm Holland & Knight announced it has established a formal association with the law firm Evaldo Ramos-Advogados Associados in Brazil, its fifth Latin American connection. The 16-lawyer Evaldo firm has offices in Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro. MIRACLE ART: Washington, DC-based Starwood Urban Investments is sponsoring an arts project in vacant retail space at 137 Miracle Mile in Coral Gables. The four-week exhibit of digital work by local artist Mette Tommerup will be on view as "Clone Room" through Jan. 31. A special reception is scheduled from 7-10 p.m. Jan. 19 and Ms. Tommerup will be on-site from 2-5 p.m. Saturdays. ARTISTIC BLUES: The Museum of Contemporary Art in North Miami is presenting a concert by Bill "the sauce boss" Wharton as part of its Jazz at MoCA series at 8 p.m. Jan. 26 outside the Joan Lehman Building, 770 NE 125th St. Promoters say the performer, a blues musician, uses a slide guitar "to extol the joys of gumbo." PARKINSON POSTS: The South Florida chapter of the American Parkinson Disease Association elected Dr. Lloyd Zucker and Joy Riddell to its board. Dr. Zucker is partner in Neurosurgical Consultants of South Florida. Ms. Riddell is Florida pedestrian coordinator for the Florida Department of Transportation's Walk Florida program. ANTIQUE DEALS: More than 150 dealers are expected to participate in the Lincoln Road Antique & Collectibles Market from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Jan. 14 in the 400 block at Washington Avenue in Miami Beach. Details: (305) 673-4991. MELLON NAMES PRESIDENT: Charles E. Porter has been named president of Mellon Private Asset Management of Florida. He replaces Craig R. Sutherland, who was promoted to national director of Portfolio management and client services and moved to Boston. Mr. Porter had been with Sanford C. Bernstein & Co. in Miami and earlier had been a senior vice president of Bank of America and a vice president of Intercontinental Bank here. Mellon, which has offices in Miami, Aventura and Boca Raton, plans to expand to Fort Lauderdale and Palm Beach within six months. SAP FLOWS TO BEACH: SAP America Inc. will bring more than 2,000 people to its field operations meeting at the Miami Beach Convention Center from Jan. 22-25, 2002, the Greater Miami Convention & Visitors Bureau reports. The bureau estimates the impact of the gathering on this community at more than $2 million. EDUCATORS CONVENE: The annual meeting of the Council of Higher Education Management Association is meeting for the first time in Greater Miami. The Jan. 5-8 visit to the Hyatt Regency Miami and the Sheraton Biscayne Bay brings to Miami 45 CEOs and presidents of associations managing various educational disciplines. CANADIANS TAPE HERE: Musique Plus, a music video and lifestyle television show from Canada, will be in Miami-Dade County from Jan. 5-13 taping segments for broadcast in Canada and international syndication. The program is seen in 500,000 households weekly in Quebec. ASSOCIATION HEADS HUDDLE: The American Society of Association Executives will hold its annual CEO symposium at the Wyndham Miami Beach from Jan. 7-10. The 125 attendees represent more than 75 national associations. TURNABOUT: When Jeanne Sullivan of the Greater Miami Convention & Visitors Bureau and Gerry Kelly, beach entertainment impresario, made a guest appearance on Ireland AM, a nationally broadcast television show, it triggered a reciprocal visit. One of the show's anchors and a fashion-entertainment reporter are due here Jan. 4-10 to tape a week's worth of segments to air in Ireland the week of Jan. 15. The show has a daily audience of 3 million, the convention bureau reports. SPIRIT FIRST: Miami's Carnival Corp. announced its new 86,000-ton Carnival Spirit will make its debut voyage April 29 this year. The 2,124-passenger vessel, dubbed part of the line's "Fun Ship fleet," will take a 16-day Panama canal cruise. Among unique features of the cruise ship, say publicists, are the line's first wedding chapel, a large conference center, a reservations-only supper club and a wrap-around outdoor promenade. AUTUMN LEAVES: Carnival also announced its first-ever "fall foliage" cruises will be offered this year. The series of seven-day adventures out of New York with stops in New England and eastern Canada will be offered between Sept. 8-29. GRAND DOUGLAS: Groundbreaking ceremonies are scheduled from 7-10 p.m. Jan. 10 for Douglas Grand Project, a mixed-use development at 1500 Douglas Road, Coral Gables, that will feature rental units, offices and an Albertson's supermarket. The new site is its 31st US location. INDUSTRIAL STRENGTH: STK International leased 49,280 square feet of industrial space at 5511-5539 NW 161st St and 5510-5518 163rd St. from Canam Associates Venture #4. Michael Silver of CB Richard Ellis represented Canam in the transaction. 99 CENTS STORE: US 99 Cents leased 6,000 square feet of retail space at 1799 SW Eighth St. Paco Diaz of CB Richard Ellis represented the landlord, the Miami office of Paul Jeremie, in the transaction.
