Well-traveled Richard Hartzell in charge of strategies for MasterCard's growth in dynamic Latin America

MasterCard International last month named a new chief for its fastest-growing region, appointing Richard A. Hartzell president for Latin America and the Caribbean. In the Miami-based role, he succeeds Javier Pérez, named president of MasterCard Europe.
Mr. Hartzell, 50, joined MasterCard in 1993 and most recently served as senior vice president for regional key accounts, overseeing a team dedicated to business development, competitive strategies, product development and market opportunities for key customers in Latin America and the Caribbean. In that role, he played a major part in the company's growth in the region, where in the first quarter of this year, gross volume increased 27.4% from the same period last year to $28.1 billion.
Mr. Hartzell spelled out his plans for further expansion in his new position in an interview with Miami Today international editor Michael Hayes.
