Longtime Floridian Doug Cueny moving into role as chief executive officer of Miami HMO AvMed

Robert C. Hudson will retire at the end of the year after more than 28 years with Florida's oldest and largest not-for-profit health plan, Miami-based AvMed Health Plans. His successor as president and chief executive officer has begun taking the helm and assuming his responsibilities.
He is Douglas G. "Doug" Cueny, AvMed's president and chief operating officer. In his nearly 30-year career, Mr. Cueny, 58, has served as president and CEO of three health plans and in hospitals in the Southeast US. He is chairman of the Florida Association of Health Plans.
Mr. Cueny was interviewed by Miami Today international editor Michael Hayes by telephone from AvMed's Corporate Center in Gainesville, which he was visiting.
