Former University of Miami fundraiser Lucy Morillo putting spark in Miami Children's Hospital Foundation

To Lucy Morillo, a veteran fundraiser, doing the job is simply "friend-raising with a monetary component," she says. "Friend-raising" for the Miami Children's Hospital as the new head of the Miami Children's Hospital Foundation has brought a deeper meaning to her longtime profession.
Promoting a facility that provides "health care with heart" has been a natural, she says. Creator of the University of Miami's Office of Estate and Gift Planning, Ms. Morillo had a hand in helping raise $1 billion for the school before beginning her job at the foundation this spring. She hopes to get the hospital into a ranking among the nation's top facilities, a $150 million goal she said is more than attainable.
Ms. Morillo was interviewed in the foundation's offices by Miami Today staff writer Risa Polansky.
