Marcio Cabrera taking Navarro Pharmacies into new markets to widen its Hispanic appeal and capture other demographics

At the helm of a formerly family-owned business, new Navarro Discount Pharmacies CEO Marcio Cabrera is forging ahead to take the growing chain to the next level. Focusing now on an infrastructure revamp and a customer service push, he hopes to keep expanding through the South Florida market and eventually beyond. The Cuba-born company has 31 stores throughout Miami-Dade and Broward counties and annual revenues of $350 million. In the long term it could reach into other large Hispanic markets in places such as Texas and California. Navarro will also continue to cater to its core Hispanic customer here while reaching out to new demographics as it expands into such areas as Palmetto Bay. Today's economic downturn could be a boon to the discount chain as it expands, Mr. Cabrera said, in offering money-conscious customers items 10% to 20% less expensively than major competitors. Mr. Cabrera was interviewed in his Medley office by Miami Today staff writer Risa Polansky.
