| ART Thursday 10/2 ART ON THE KEYThe Marjory Stoneman Douglas Biscayne Nature Center hosts the exhibition "Nature in The Gallery" by Miami artist Dylan Terry. DARK GALLERY The Museum of Contemporary Art hosts the opening reception for its latest exhibit, "Dark Continents." The exhibit examines the modern fascination with tropical locales during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. EGYPT IN MIAMI The Lowe Art Museum presents "Excavating Egypt: Great Discoveries from the Petrie Museum of Egyptian Archaeology, University College, London," an exhibition of 221 Egyptian artifacts excavated by British archaeologist Sir William Matthew Flinders Petrie. BITTERSWEET TIMES The Wolfsonian-Florida International University presents "A Bittersweet Decade: The New Deal in America, 1933-43." The exhibit considers the impact of Franklin D. Roosevelt's New Deal programs on American culture. It explores how the government's patronage of art, design and architecture were integral parts of the larger project of the New Deal, which aimed to spur recovery from the Great Depression and change American society. A FUTURISTIC PAST The Historical Museum of Southern Florida is hosting "Interama: Miami and the Pan-American Dream," based on the 1960s futuristic fair, Interama. While architects' predictions and visions for Miami never came to fruition, the museum has gathered their work into a multi-sensory exhibit that provides a look at post-World War II culture. BODY IN BLACK AND WHITE The Cisneros Fontanals Art Foundation hosts 35 photos taken by Spanish photojournalist Isabel Muñoz. THE EYE OF THE COLLECTOR The Jewish Museum of Florida hosts an exhibit of the paintings, drawings, prints and photographs from Sigmund R. Balka's collection. CITY OF THE DEAD The Historical Museum of Southern Florida hosts the opening of a photography exhibit by architect Raul L. Rodriguez. The exhibition, "NecrÛpolis CristÛbal ColÛn" includes large color prints of the avenues, mausoleums, vaults and chapels of the CristÛbal ColÛn Cemetery in Havana, a resting place for national and historical figures. Friday 10/3 FABLES ON CANVASArtSpace/Virginia Miller Galleries hosts the opening reception for Cuban born-artists Humberto Castro's latest exhibition, "Contemporary Fables."
