WATERFRONT SALE: Continental Real Estate Cos. has closed a $3.8 million all-cash sale of an undeveloped waterfront parcel in Miami Beach. The 1.06-acre site was bought by a Windson Capital, a Canadian real estate investment firm. Located at 6800 Indian Creek Drive, the site includes 93,000 square feet of buildable area. Peter Mekras, vice president of Continental Real Estate Cos., said the buyer plans to hold the site 12 months and reevaluate the possibility of then using it for a for-sale condominium or rental project. The site was previously zoned for multi-family housing.
MEXICAN CONSULATE TO MOVE: The Consulate General of Mexico will move early in 2012 after signing a 23,000-square-foot, 10-year lease at 1399 SW First Ave. in Miami's financial district, occupying three full floors. The move was prompted by the location near hundreds of global institutions and other Latin American consulates. Currently the consulate is at 5975 SW 72nd St. in South Miami. Blanca Commercial Real Estate represented landlord Chestnut Capital. Holly Sime Realty represented the consulate in the transaction.
PRIVATE BANK RELOCATES: Gibraltar Private Bank will relocate its headquarters to the Columbus Center in Coral Gables, a two-tower class A office complex owned by USAA Real Estate Co. The 61,248-square-foot lease is in a building at Alhambra Plaza and Douglas Road. Cushman & Wakefield is Columbus Center's leasing agent.
CHARTER MEETINGS: In light of potential charter change, Miami-Dade County is hosting town hall meetings about the effect of proposed amendments. The first was to be held on Nov. 9, from 7-9 p.m., at the West Kendall Regional Library. The county charter requires that the commission hold six public meetings before an election on a proposed charter amendment. The commission approved Nov. 3 an item that would put to voters the question of whether commissioners should be allowed to serve only two four-year terms instead of the unlimited tenure they are now granted, be banned from all outside employment and receive $92,097 a year instead of the $6,000 they currently get. Commissioners also moved to allow voters to lengthen the time allowed for citizen petition drives from 60 days to 120. Voters can weigh in on the issue Jan. 31.
