American Airlines flies higher in Miami

    When American Airlines — one of South Florida's largest private employers and a key player in Greater Miami's tourism industry — filed for bankruptcy reorganization last November, community leaders were concerned that many jobs and flights would be lost.
   It looks like their fears were unfounded.
   American's staffing levels in Miami will change only slightly, while flights at Miami International Airport have increased, the airline said this week.
   "Our outstanding results in Latin America continue to drive our growth into the region," said Marilyn DeVoe, American's vice president — Miami. "Miami continues to be the premier hub for the Americas."
