'Simulated gambling devices' face ban

By Scott Blake
Internet cafes, strip-mall casinos, sweepstakes cafes — whatever you call them — two Miami-Dade County commissioners are sponsoring a proposed ordinance to ban the establishments.
The proposal by Sally Heyman, the prime sponsor, and recently-elected Juan Zapata, the co-sponsor, was scheduled for a first reading at this week's commission meeting.
The ordinance seeks to ban "simulated gambling devices" in Miami-Dade with fines up to $500 and up to 60 days in the county jail for violators.
