It's true: owners ask assessment hikes

    Unusual cases have been hitting the desks of the Miami-Dade Value Adjustment Board's special magistrates: property owners are asking to increase their property value to lower their taxes.
   Their aim is to maximize their portability — the difference between their home's market value and assessed value, a sum that is tax exempt and can be transferred between properties.
   "This whole thing is so unusual that many people don't even believe it is possible," said Barry Sharpe, managing member and principal of Property Tax Appeal Group (P-TAG).
