LAUGHING CURE
Miami Theater Center presents the comical children's performance of "The Love of Three Oranges." Prince Tartaglia has been sick for 10 years, and after nothing makes him feel better, two strange doctors reveal a possible cure: laughter. The king hires a famous comedian named Truffaldino to perform at the palace, but as soon as the prince laughs, an evil witch curses him, making him wander the world feverishly searching for three mysterious oranges. A good wizard helps Tartaglia overcome several obstacles on his way to finding the oranges, and the prince returns home with much more than fruit. Through March 10. Miami Theater Center, 9806 SW Second Ave., Miami Shores. $20. Details: (305) 751-9550 or info@mtcmiami.org or www.mtcmiami.org.
AGNES OF GOD
New Theatre presents "Agnes of God" by John Pielmeier, a psychological drama that was on Broadway and later made into a film. The performance tells of a court-appointed psychiatrist charged with the task of assessing the sanity of a novice nun (Agnes) accused of murdering her newborn. However, the Mother Superior keeps young Agnes from the doctor, arousing the doctor's suspicions further. Who killed the infant and who fathered the tiny victim? These questions force all three women to re-examine the meaning of faith and the power of love. 8 p.m. Thurs.-Sat. 1 p.m. Feb. 10. 5:30 p.m. Feb. 17. Additional performances through Feb. 17. New Theatre at the Roxy Performing Arts Center, 1645 SW 107th Ave., Miami. $15 student rush at the door. $35-$40 others. Details: (305) 443-5909 or www.new-theatre.org.
