Lourdes Lopez plans to add schools, premiere four works and tour the Miami City Ballet she heads in Latin America
In April 2012, Lourdes Lopez was named artistic director of Miami City Ballet and was scheduled to begin this May. However, after outgoing artistic director Edward Villella departed early, she found herself at the helm a little earlier than expected.
Years prior, Ms. Lopez began taking ballet lessons on the recommendation of a doctor at the age of 5, and when her orthopedic boots came off she pirouetted and plied into a wonderful dance career.
Now as she finds balance in her new role, she said Miami City Ballet dancers have welcomed her and she is looking forward to a very exciting season ahead.
Ms. Lopez was interviewed by reporter Laura Stace in the companyÕs Miami Beach headquarters.
